Cal Ripken Baseball Programs

UpdatedMonday January 20, 2020 byGYBSL Board.

GYBSL’s Baseball Programs will follow Babe Ruth Baseball & Cal Ripken Baseball guidelines and standards. Each level may have a number of rule modifications based on GYBSL policy and/or in accordance with the area Inter-League Programs.

CAL RIPKEN T-BALL LEAGUE | BOYS & GIRLS AGED 4 – 5 (Age Chart)

Teams within this level will meet 1x per week starting the first Saturday of May and run until mid-June. Saturday Mornings – 1hr – Start time TBD at Gardner High School Fields

Parent coaches and volunteers will lead our youngest players though throwing, catching, hitting and basic fielding drills each Saturday for the first 30 minutes of the session. During the last 30 minutes players will participate in a controlled game against the other T-Ball level teams. All players hit the ball from a batting tee which is height-adjusted for a level swing, batting in order through the line-up for the entire game.

Our primary goal is to begin to instruct young players in the fundamentals of baseball in the most supportive environment possible.

The Program Fee is $50.00 (fee includes player’s uniform: numbered jersey and hat)

The League will provide soft covered baseballs, bats, helmets, batting tee, and bases.

Players will need to provide their own glove (required), cleats (optional at this level), and sliding pants (optional at this level)

CAL RIPKEN ROOKIE LEAGUE (COACH PITCH) | AGE 6 – 8 (Age Chart)

Teams within this level will meet 3x (1x practice & 2x games) per week starting late-April and run until mid-June. Games will be held on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. Practices will be scheduled by each individual coach. Practices and games will be held at the Gardner High School Fields.

Our Parent coaches and volunteers will continue to focus on baseball fundamentals during practices and games. This is our coach pitch level, which will allow for more hittable balls at the plate and more action in the field. During each game all players will bat each inning and be afforded an opportunity to hit live pitching (a batting tee will be used if a player is struggling to hit against the coaches pitches). Out’s will not be recorded until mid-season, this will allow each player the confidence to hit the ball and reach base during the first half of the season.

Our primary goal is to build upon what players learned at the T-Ball level, begin to understand baseball situations while building confidence at the plate by facing coach pitching.

The Program Fee is $75.00 (fee includes player’s uniform: numbered jersey, hat, and matching socks)

The League will provide to each coach baseballs, bats, helmets, catchers equipment and bases.

Players will need to provide their own glove (required), cleats (recommended at this level), and sliding pants (recommended at this level).
